THE STORY BEHIND THE BUSINESS
About HELM Bespoke

HELM Bespoke grew from a desire to build things properly — with care, precision, and standards that last long after the work is finished.
My working life began on building sites before taking an unexpected turn to sea. For over eleven years I worked aboard superyachts, sailing extensively while working in high-specification environments where the standard of finish was uncompromising. There was no hiding poor preparation behind a second coat, and no tolerance for work that was merely “good enough”. That experience shaped the way I approach craftsmanship today.
In 2021 I stepped ashore to train at Rowden Atelier, widely regarded as one of the country’s leading schools for fine furniture and joinery. I later worked with William Garvey before returning briefly to the sea.
Now back in Devon permanently, HELM Bespoke is the result of a deliberate decision to build a business around thoughtful craftsmanship, honest workmanship, and a more grounded way of life with my family.
I prefer to take on fewer projects and give each one the attention it deserves. The work I’m most drawn to is where detail genuinely matters — fitted furniture designed specifically for its setting, carefully restored timberwork, refined interior joinery, and finishes that improve rather than simply replace what is already there.
I work in a measured and considered way: careful preparation, clean sites, open communication, and a focus on longevity over shortcuts. Clients are given honest advice about materials, finishes, and what will genuinely work best for their home, not simply what is quickest or easiest to install.
Right now, I'm most interested in the work where the result is genuinely worth caring about: front doors finished to a standard that holds up, period windows restored rather than replaced, fitted furniture that suits the room it's made for.
HELM Bespoke operates across East Devon and Dorset, working primarily within the area surrounding Axminster, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and the Jurassic Coast.
If you value craftsmanship, thoughtful detailing, and work carried out with care and accountability, I’d love to hear about your project.
